Dermatology Clinical Research

PHDermatology has established a premier Clinical Research Program designed to engage our community in the development of new and improved therapies for dermatologic conditions that are affecting our population.

 

The Director of the PHDermatology Clinical Research Program is John C. Mavropoulos, MD, MPH, PhD. Dr. Mavropoulos is a board-certified Dermatologist and a fellowship-trained Mohs micrographic surgeon and a member of the American College of Mohs Surgery. He has over nine years of experience as a clinical trial investigator. Dr. Mavropoulos earned a Bachelor’s of Science degree in Chemistry at the University of Chicago and then completed his M.D. and Ph.D. degrees at Duke University while simultaneously obtaining a Master’s in Public Health (M.P.H.) degree in Nutrition and Epidemiology at the University of North Carolina in Chapel Hill.  Dr. Mavropoulos published over 20 scientific articles and studies in peer-reviewed journals and has over 10 years of experience in clinical research and the discovery of new and improved therapies for dermatology.

Dr. Michael D. Tharp, MD, a board-certified dermatologist with nearly 30 years of clinical trial experience, serves as the Assistant Director of the Clinical Research Program. Dr. Tharp earned his medical degree, cum laude, from Ohio State College of Medicine and went on to complete his internship and residency in Internal Medicine at Parkland Memorial Hospital in Dallas, Texas, as well as a residency and fellowship in Dermatology at Duke Medical Center in Durham, North Carolina. He has authored over 170 articles, books, book chapters, and reviews.

Our study nurse, Ann Marie Martin, LPN, CCRC and our program coordinator, Amy Holbert, MA, CCRP each have over 20 years’ experience as research professionals.
